| Need recommendations for an external hard drive... | | I am looking to buy an external hard drive. I want close to 700GB size. It is for putting movies on and pictures so we can view them on the tv screen instread of huddled around the small PC screen. So.. if you have one... share your brand and why you like it and why you think it is the best.Anyone have a Western Digital? What do you think about it?Also, is there something else I need to be cautious of having for it to accomodate my PC? I have Windows XP. | My external hard drive will not stay connected | | I have a WD external hard drive that is a couple years old. For some time, it would not power down with my PC. Later, the light would go on and off continuously and it would not connect. I started disconnecting the cables and reconnecting them. At that point, it would reconnect with the PC. After a couple PC restarts, I have the same problem. I have already reinstalled the drivers a couple times, but no fix. I am afraid I may have some bad hardware. What does everyone think? | |

| Using an external hard drive | | I recently bought an external hard drive for my laptop, since I only have a 30g hard drive installed. My question is, how do you go about using programs from the external hard drive? Mine keeps telling me that it doesn't have the proper setup to support the installed programs when I try to run them. Do I need to install an OS on it? I want to run my MS Office from it, as well as my Sims 2 game. Any suggestions? I have a WD 320g external drive. | |
| | What will you do with a 750-GB external hard drive? | | HEllo guys, i just have recently ordered through a friend in Singapore a Maxtor 750-GB external hard drive. its dimensions are 6 x 6.5 inches with depth of 3.5 inches. I am so excited! This is will make my backing up a cinch. I have been burning my files to blank dvds and looking for a specific back up can be very tedious. sometimes, i feel like a card player going through each dvd like crazy. plus burning dvd backups can take a long time and my laptop ends up hanging and i have to stop from work for a little while.how about you? what are you going to do with a 750-GB hard drive? which brand do you prefer? mine is maxtor hands down:-Dhope to hear from you... | |
